Deploy Pivot Stickfigure Animator via Group Policy

An easy one, this. Infact, it seems far too easy. Just share Pivot’s setup.exe in some folder on your server, and add the following to a startup script attached to your GPO (with the correct server name and share paths applied, of course).

\\SVR\Share\Path\setup.exe /quiet

That’s it! It installs near instantaneously on newer machines as well – well done that man.

  1. I used this very setup again today and it worked fine in my situation, and has done every time I have done a rebuild since I posted this.

  2. I found the problem. It works now. The new version 2.2.6 will not install unless you select all the toolbar and add on crap. Went to the version prior, and it installs just like you said!

  3. Morning World,
I’ve done this today using Pivot Animator Same command but adjusted to my scenario.
    PIVOT.BAT contains
    \\hilariousdomainname\dfspath\Pivot Animator\setup.exe

Rebooted a few machines aaaaaaaanndd………………. No joy. I’ll contact their support for ideas and feedback if I get anything (and remember to).

Would REALLY like an MSI of this software. If a software doesn’t have an MSI available I don’t order it. They’re easy to make and even easier for the customer to deploy. #speedandease

  4. Funnily enough I had the same issue last week, couldn’t find a way to get it to install quietly, but that might be a good thing as there is a toolbar and other stuff that needs deselecting.

What I have done for the moment is to install to a share and place a shortcut on each of the PCs that need to run it. Seems to run OK like this.

In the absence of a proper package I hacked together this script to remove the old one:
    rmdir /s /q “C:\Program Files\Pivot Stickfigure Animator”
    rmdir /s /q “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Pivot Stickfigure Animator”
    del /Q “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop\Pivot Stickfigure Animator.lnk”
